Ask the Editors: Seeking That Perfect Exhaust Note
We get this question quite a bit and the answer to which is the right choice for you depends upon exactly what you’re looking to gain. In your question you mention you want more volume in your exhaust note but fail to mention if you’re seeking a horsepower advantage and where you would want that power delivered.
Either system will offer more bark, a deeper idle note and HMF claims that either series slip on will be good for 10-15% more horse power and torque throughout the power curve.
So what’s the difference then? The Performance Series is a bit more affordable and designed to offer equal power distribution across the entire range of your ATV. In other words, any gains in performance will be felt evenly as you pull through each gear rather than a distinct surge down low or in the top-end for example.

The Performance Series is assembled on an durable 6063-T6 aluminum alloy shell, with magnesium and silicon as the alloying elements. A high-temp powder coat allows for a completely custom look. It also makes use of a 2 1/8″ unrestricted core with a special hole pattern that allows the exhaust system to increase power evenly throughout the RPM range.

The Competition Series, as the name suggests, is the better choice for racing applications. It’s pricier and features a system of 3 interchangeable inserts that effect the sound and power output of the ATV differently, giving the rider complete control over the type of power and sound needed for different track conditions.
If it is sound you are most concerned with, perhaps the Competition Series would be your best bet as you have several options to hone in on the sound you’re after.
