Ask The Editors: Difficulty Finding Chinese Parts

Richard, of all the questions we field around here, perhaps none are as common (or as trying) as locating Chinese ATV parts. We say it often but the practice of putting stickers on their machines that often don’t pertain to the actual engine in question, swapping brand names, lacking dealers and support all equates to major issues the moment something goes wrong.
All of that said, TaoTao is one of the better options as far as parts location is concerned. But, as you’ve discovered, still far from easy.
Based on what you describe and the schematics we’ve studied, our best guess for what you need is part # 105013 – Hex Flange Bolt M10x1.25×50 (#12 on the above schematic).
If that’s not correct, and what you need are the studs that pass directly through the spindle and fasten via lug nuts, you may have to purchase a new brake hub assembly which includes the wheel studs integrated already. That would be part # 112341 – Drum Brake Hub for 10″ rim.
