Ask The Editors: How Many Paddles Can My ATV Spin?
While you didn’t specify whether or not your LTR is stock or modified, we can state that we had success running an 8-paddle Sand Skate II like the one shown below on a stock 1992 Suzuki LTR250 (albeit with a fresh top end/ good compression).
While there is a bit of truth to the theory that more paddles displace more sand per rotation and hence demand more engine output, the higher-revving 2-strokes are all quite adept at getting the rear tires spinning fast enough to make concerns of that additional paddle null.
If you’re still not convinced, your absolute best way to be sure would be to visit forums and riding communities dedicated to the sandbox where you plan to take your Suzuki and ask the locals about the hot setups. Oftentimes the consistency, composition and density of the sand in question responds best to what we would consider odd setups. They’ll be able to steer you in the proper direction of what will work best for your quad.
