Ask the Editors: How Much is my Quad Worth?
The loaded question.

Dear ATVC: Hello everyone. I have a 2000 DS650 bone stock with original tires. The quad is in mint condition. Always garaged runs flawless. Any feedback on what it’s worth is greatly appreciated.

Have you ever heard the saying that anything is worth only what someone is willing to pay you for it? That’s kind of crude but there is quite a bit of truth to this logic when it comes to the secondary ATV market. Why? Well a few reasons- the least of which is that unlike our road-going cousins, ATVs aren’t inspected annually. There is a very high degree of having to have faith in the seller’s honesty when it comes to the off-road game. As a result, things like detailed maintenance records/ dealership service invoices can make a big difference.

Next is the reality that values are heavily determined by area. Certain parts of the planet have insatiable demand for 4×4 machines and those setup for mud use for example while those areas in the west may instead place great emphasis on paddle tires and desert configurations. As a result, we often recommend checking out your area’s local classifieds to get a feel for what types of machines seem to be most in demand and to assemble an average asking cost.

Lastly, pricing experts like NADA and Kelley Blue Book have only recently expanded their catalogs to include the ATV/ SxS segments. Because of this, their opinion on value is rarely considered as influential as it has been traditionally with things like cars and boats. That being said, Kelley Blue Book places the 2000 Bombardier DS650 in “Good Condition” with typical mileage at $1,575 private owner sale and $1,020 at dealership trade-in value. Add a couple hundred to these figures as yours sounds to be in better than “Good Condition” with less mileage.
