HVAC in SxS / off-road applications
Yeah, we definitely borrowed this one.

Dear ATVC: Okay here’s one for you. How come some machines are called HVACs? Isn’t that a term for central air furnace repair?

That’s actually a good point – we borrowed that acronym directly from the industrial sector. In industry it means Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. In our application it’s the same thing, really – referring to enclosed cab models that are equipped with climate control features.
HVAC in SxS / off-road applications
It’s a bit on the nose since well, such a SxS with heating and air conditioning will have to have vents but it gets the job done. We’re not sure why they didn’t just go with climate controlled – maybe because the initials CC are already designated to cubic centimeters.

Ours is an industry that lovely acronyms! SxS (side by side) and UTV (utility task vehicle) were once specific enough over OHV (off-highway vehicle), ORV (off-road vehicle) and ROV (recreational off-road vehicle) but now we’re branching into ADV for Adventure Vehicle, PTV for Personal Transport Vehicle, EV for the electric powered ones and now HVAC for climate controlled cabs. We imagine as time goes on, and more and more specialized trims and features become standard, the bowl of alphabet soup will get only deeper.
