Ask The Editors: Is Model Year on a Blaster a Thing?
It was around for 16 years. It was the same for all of them.
Well we have some good news- the Yamaha Blaster was virtually unchanged through its entire production run (1988 to 2006).
The only changes that did place in all that time were a minor change of the rear tail light to a multi-function tail light and brake light in 2002. In 2003 it was updated with a re-styled front nose, and the headlight assembly was moved down from the handlebars to the nose and the mechanical drum brakes were replaced by dual hydraulic disc brakes in the front and a single in the rear.
From the pics it appears yours is one of the first generation units, placing it from model year 1988-2002.
If you need more specifics, locate the VIN number on the machine’s frame. The 10’th digit from the front should be the model year. Here is the chart to reference:
