Ask The Editors: Mini Wants to Run Away
Dear ATVC: I’m new to the whole ATV thing. I just bought my son a Kazuma 90cc Mini Falcon (automatic). When I start it, I have to have my foot on the brake otherwise it just takes off. Is that how it’s supposed to be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Timdaddyo4
Usually when an automatic wants to get a move-on unless you act upon it by holding the brakes, it’s idling too high. What you’re going to want to do is locate the idle adjustment screw on the right side of the carburetor (#4 on the below diagram) and slowly turn the screw out until you reach between 1,500 and 1,600 RPM. Of course without a tachometer to confirm the exact RPM, what you want to do is hone in on that sweet spot where it idles without stalling but isn’t revving so high that it’s ready to leave you in the dust before you’ve even gotten on.
