Ask The Editors: Radiator in the Rear?
Dear ATVC:
Simple question – has anyone ever designed a liquid cooled ATV with the radiator in the back? Would that even work?
Based on the idea that a radiator requires the flow of air to function, one would think that only logical place to put one would be the front of the machine (where airflow is most abundant) but indeed, throughout the years radiators have appeared in a multitude of locations.
To the best of our knowledge, the Bombardier Traxter (shown) is the first and only modern production ATV with the radiator located in the back.
Presumably, part of what makes this design possible is use of an electric fan, which insures airflow even in regions where naturally occurring currents are minimal.
