Ask The Editors: Shock Upgrade On An Old TRX
The good news? You have options.
In doing some research, it appears from OEM schematics to be a simple coil over shock that, while you can mostly rebuild, every place we looked at didn’t have the most important component in stock (the damper itself). Here is an example.
We have good news, though, the aftermarket is absolutely loaded with much more affordable complete shocks available that not only cost far less than OEM, actually include features like full adjustability.
The OEM Part # you want to search are either 52400-HF1-671 or 52400-HF1-910. These shocks were the same for the following years and models:
1992 Honda FourTrax 200 TRX200D 2×4 Type II
1991 Honda FourTrax 200 TRX200 2×4
1991 Honda FourTrax 200 TRX200D 2×4 Type II
1990 Honda FourTrax 200 TRX200 2×4
1990 Honda FourTrax 200 TRX200SX 2×4
We’re not sure from what part of the world you are writing, but here is an example on eBay of one such adjustable aftermarket complete shock, brand new for $89/ free shipping.
