Ask The Editors: Should Be a Breeze
Easy breezy.

Dear ATVC: I just bought my son a 2000 Yamaha Breeze 125 for his first 4-wheeler. When I bought it, it wasn’t running so I put in a new ignition, new spark plug, and new battery. I got it running but it is idling high, that is an easy fix I believe. However, when I put it in forward it does not move when I hit the throttle. It doesn’t do anything or make any noise when you put it in gear. It does go in reverse and move in reverse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good news – while tuning up the machine as you have will extend the life of the engine, the problem sounds to us like something much simpler. The Breeze uses a rather simple CVT transmission and since you say it goes into reverse and moves fine there, that rules out most of the common culprits (like the belt or clutch needing replacement).

We would begin by going over the shifter assembly from the hand-lever to where it connects to the transmission (schematic below). It sounds like the linkage lacks sufficient tension to fully activate the forward engagement. If not out of adjustment, it could be as simple as missing a spring.
