ATV Industry Facts: Did You Know?
A look at the sales stats side of things.

Prior to the mid-2000s, ATV sales were in the neighborhood of 1-million units sold annually. The market came to a crashing halt in 2008 when the nation slipped into a recession brought about by the housing crisis. One of the first areas consumers begin to cut from their budget in such times is recreational entertainment.

While we’ve been steadily recovering in these 9-years since, we’ve yet to hit numbers quite as impressive. According to 2015’s final sales numbers, total ATV figures came in around 630,000 units sold. And that broke down into 400,000 side-by-sides* and 230,000 ATVs.

Bonus Fact: Did you know that while fire breathing side-by-sides like the Yamaha YXZ1000R, Arctic Cat Wildcat and Polaris RZR frequently make headlines for their performance potential, they represent only a fraction of the market. 60% of UTVs sold are used for work purposes, commercial applications, landscaping etc.

* The actual number of UTVs sold is somewhat higher than reported as surveys aren’t yet designed to take into account machines made, marketed and sold by companies outside the powersports sector; companies like John Deere, Bob Cat, Kubota, New Holland, ClubCar etc.
