Exotic ATV Sighting: Cushman Trackster
The world laughed in National Lampoon’s Vacation when Chevy Chase as Clark W. Griswold came home with a wood-grain paneled station wagon called the Family Truckster but die-hard ATV aficionados may realize that utility machine company Cushman makes a work oriented side-by-side to this very day called the Truckster.
Interestingly enough, if you could go back in time to the 1970s, you would discover Cushman made a an ATV unlike any before or since called the Trackster. Like the name suggests, it boasted tracks and skid steered like a dozer.
It hit the scene in 1970 and came in two configurations- standard and Marsh Model; which essentially added a fiberglass flotation ring to the standard model body tub so as to make it amphibious.
It was powered by either an OMC 25 or 29 hp die-cast aluminum, air-cooled, two-cycle engine with electric start and came in at a dry weight of 985 pounds.
While they’re becoming ever fewer and farther between on the trails with each passing year, we’ve been spying them on eBay selling from anywhere from $2,500 to $9,000. Thanks to the internet, much of the vehicle’s charm and technical data will be forever preserved. Click here to browse a fantastic resource devoted exclusively to this rare machine.
