The Mahindra ROXOR Arrives And It’s Not What We Expected
Think of this is as an off-road-only Jeep.
There had been a whole variety of rumors swirling around the industry speculating on Indian tractor specialists Mahindra’s new ROXOR 4×4. The curtain has been listed and rather than another high performance side-by-side or brutish UTV, what they revealed is actually a lot closer to a Willys Jeep.
At first glace we thought it was the ultimate on/off road solution but believe it or not, it’s looking like an off-road only designation. Some of the specs include 3,490 pounds of towing capacity, a turbo diesel engine, 9″ of ground clearance and a 45mph top speed cutoff.
It’s looking like the base model will set you back $15,549 and will include such goodies as 16-inch wheels, leaf spring suspension, a bed liner, stamped steel frame, and front disk/rear drum brakes. The LE version will retail for $18,999 and will include BFG Ko2 tires, KC HiLites light bar, Bestop soft top, MTX Bluetooth sound bar, 8000lb Warn winch etc. There will also be a Dune Edition offered with dessert theme, side netting and flag mounts.
Were we to guess, the reason Mahindra forewent the street legality route was so as to avoid the necessary government safety standards testing and overall vehicle weight bogged down by standard safety equipment (think everything from frame reinforcement to airbags on down to signals and catalytic converters); the ROXOR comes in weighing only 3,045 pounds.
