Polaris to compete in Baja 400
The racing heats up next month.

Polaris Factory Racing announced today that driver Max Eddy Jr. will compete in Class 1, an open-wheel unlimited-class, behind the wheel of his RZR Pro R Factory at the upcoming 5th SCORE Baja 400 on Saturday, September 14. Running a UTV in Class 1 is not only unprecedented, but also provides Polaris Factory Racing with a unique opportunity to test the capabilities of the RZR Pro R Factory on an entirely different level against some of the fastest vehicles in the field.

Beginning in Class 1 straight away, Eddy Jr. will compete directly with the leading racers from the start of the race. This decision was influenced by the consistent performance of the RZR Pro R Factory over the last eighteen months in SCORE series events, where it has frequently achieved speeds and results comparable to higher-class vehicles than the UTV Pro Open class. Eddy Jr. is experienced in being at the forefront of competition in SCORE, having secured multiple overall wins on a motorcycle.

Polaris aims to use its race program as a foundation for advancing its consumer vehicles. By pushing the limits of the Polaris Factory Racing machine, the company demonstrates its dedication to enhancing technology and performance through competitive endeavors.

“Our achievements so far demonstrate that the RZR Pro R Factory is undeniably the leading UTV in desert racing. However, venturing into Class 1 competition allows us to assess its performance on a whole new level, beyond the modified UTVs we have been up against since the inception of this factory program,” stated Ryan Thomas, General Manager of Polaris Factory Racing. “With Max’s expertise and talent, he is well-prepared for this challenge, and we are eagerly anticipating how this vehicle will fare against tough competition. At the very least, it promises to be an exciting opportunity to witness what Max and the RZR Pro R Factory can achieve in this category.”

Eddy Jr. will join Class 1, while the remaining Polaris Factory Racing team members will maintain their participation in the UTV Pro Open class. Cayden MacCachren leads the team, holding the top spot in the SCORE championship points standings. This is following impressive wins at the San Felipe 250 and Baja 500. Brock Heger, the current UTV Pro Open champion, secured third place overall, with team principal and racer Craig Scanlon trailing closely in fourth.
