Washing the ATV: Cleaning Product Review

Slick Offroad Wash Product Evaluation

Because a Clean Quad is Always Slick

The problem:

Playing in the dirt and mud leaves your ATV looking crusty, grimy and beat down.

Problem # 2:

Pressure washing can be hard on seals, bearings and even your machine’s decals.

Problem # 3:

Most specialized detergents powerful enough to cut the grime also blast away grease; a vital element in lubrication of your ATV’s bearings, drivetrain, pivots, and moving parts.

The Solution:

Slick Offroad Wash, a super concentrate soap that, when diluted with water, is designed to melt away the mud, dirt, grime, clay and ooze from your ATV without breaking down your machine’s lubrication.

The Process:

Slick arrives in 6-ounce packets of super concentrate, which is formulated to be mixed with one gallon of water for optimum efficiency (whether in a bucket, the Slick Pump sprayer, or even any old garden/ plant pump sprayer).

Simply spray the mixture on your dirty ATV (for best results before it has an opportunity to dry out) let it soak for a few minutes then rinse it off.

The Verdict:

The stuff works, it’s that simple.  The caked on mud begins dislodging and sliding off the ATV’s fenders almost immediately after application.  What few stubborn splatters remain after ten-minutes of soaking vanished without a trace with a simple rinse of the garden hose.

We could best compare the Slick experience as similar to the results we expect from using a dedicated degreaser (like Greased Lightening or Simple Green), a full power washing, then re-lubrication of the key areas of the machine.  This wasn’t only cheaper, but much less time consuming/ labor intensive.

The Good:

The stuff works on just about anything you could possibly get dirty (chest protector, riding boots, cars, trucks, boats, RVs, campers, bicycles, even the siding on your house).  Plus it’s biodegradable, and contains no acids or phosphates meaning it’s friendly on the environment.  Finally, and much to our delight, it dries with no residue or stickiness on any of the dozen or so surfaces we used the product on (including our cars).

The Bad:

At .99 per packet (or for a complete kit that includes 3 packets of the soap, a one-gallon sprayer, and sticker pack), some may balk at the price of admission.  As a consolation, we were able to get multiple washings out of a single gallon mixture.

Additionally, as Slick is a fairly new product, availability is yet limited.  We found ordering it factory-direct to be the only solution to getting a hold of the product in our area.

The Bottom Line:

Any product that almost completely eliminates the need for scrubbing and for the use of a potentially damaging pressure washer is one we can get behind.
