Default gio 50cc lacks grunt

hi new here and i hope someone can offer some advice. i recently bought my six year old a gio 50cc four stroke mini quad, he loves it but the gearing is all wrong. it will top out at around 70kph but doesn't have the low end to even make it up the trailer ramp so i'm wondering if theres a cheap, possibly free way to mod the clutch or adjust something to make it better. a friend suggested changing the rear sprocket a bit bigger but i dont think thats the avenue that will correct the stammering off the start problem.
any advice is greatly appreciated!!
thanks

I have one with the same problem, its top end is almost too fast but can barely pull itself thru small ruts and holes. Hopefully someone has some advice on this topic.
