Please Help: I have a Baja 90cc atv and it will not start. I am pretty sure it is an electrical problem. I get power to the front headlights but the starter motor just makes a humming noise. I am wondering if it is the battery? I put a new solenoid in, the motor does not crank over or anything. Its like the engine is not getting enough electricity. I am also wondering if any importnat wires are corroded because all the atv does is make a little humming sound from the starter motor.

 

up front, it appears this should be fairly easy to remedy. what't the voltage reading on your stagnant battery? what does the battery's voltage do when you crank the starter? please measure with an ohm meter/voltmeter. this will tell us a lot. you could have a weak battery, dry cell, or some other battery deficiency. it does sound like a weak voltage issue. also, measure across the posts of the solenoid OR measure the wire in between the solenoid and the starter as it is cranking....that WILL tell us quite a bit there.

 

make sure all terminations/connections are clean. the electrical/starting system is not very different from your car or pick up truck. very very similar. if your car wasn't to start, what would you do? get it? now, this is how we'll tackle your quad even though your quad is a little different, the circuit acts the same.

 

could you help me John. I just got a 2006 90cc Baja atv for my little boy and where the CDI plugs in to the harness the pigtail is missing(cut off actually). What year is your bike. If possible I WILL PAY you to take 4 or 5 pictures with good clarity so I can see how it is wired up. I can not locate a harness or pigtail anywhere

 

Google the pin out for your cdi you will find pics of what each pin does. Just search for cdi and how many pins yours has. Post up on here your wire colors and someone will be able to tell u what each one is for
