110cc Chinese Quad won't crank
Hi guys, new to the site. Hoping for some help with a 110cc quad I acquired that no longer cranks.
Quad was running fine albeit very tough to start when it's cold. One particular cool day it just would not fire up. Tried starting it so much that I overheated the starter and something let out a puff of smoke near all the wiring. Now the Quad won't crank at all. Just get a clicking sound from the solenoid. Replaced the solenoid, starter and tested the battery and it still does the same thing. Tried bypassing the solenoid and nothing happens. Thought maybe the wire from the battery to the solenoid fried because the casing was melting but that didn't fix the problem either. In line fuse is fine too. Any help would be much appreciated. Getting to the point of rolling it to the curb for trash day. |
Chinese starters are poor quality so you may have bought a dud. However, check all earths, check the battery is charged, sometimes brand new ones need charging. If all is OK and it still wont turn over, remove the starter and power it up on the bench. If it works, check the engine isn't seized by turning it by hand.

Flooded by all that cranking? Remove the spark plug and try and crank it over.

No, starter won't turn at all. Just clicking from the solenoid. Bench tested the starter and it's fine. Also check the ground wires and couldn't find any issues. Puzzled at this point.

As suggested, try to turn over the motor by hand. Sounds like it's seized up.
