taotao not shifting into gears 1-4

taotao not shifting into gears 1-4
Hello,
I have an 06 250 taotao (Chinese) atv and just replaced the carb. The switch went fine but when I started it up, it was running wide open for about a minute before I could shut it down. Found out it was a stuck choke cable and now runs fine. But now, it will shift into reverse and neutral, but WILL NOT go into any of the 1-4 gears. It did shift fine, before the “choke misshap” would you have any suggestions please?!!

I went home and tried a method i read earlier, if the clutch disks are stuck together. w/o applying the clutch, i pulled the atv into first gear, applied clutch, and pushed and pulled the atv about 5 ft and repeated the step, in second gear, worked fine.
Then i tried to push the clutch lever down into first and it didn't change gears. It felt like it was "just missing" when the lever was halfway through the shift. It would just keep pressing down with no clicking noise.
I then press the clutch lever down but added a little force outwards at the same time (push it down and to the left) and it switched gears down until reverse and back up again to neutral. I ran out of daylight so wasnt able to ride it to see if the clutch is working correctly through all gears but will try it tonight. Would anyone have suggestion's on what the problem could be?!
