Default Hill climbing the Big Bear 4x4

I am going to buy a new atv sometime next week. Will a Big Bear 400 4x4 will run out power in second gear? I just sold my 88 Bayou 300. It had 4,500 miles on it. That was one tough ATV but it would run out of power on big hills. One time as I neared the top of a big one it ran out of power and came to a compleat stop. I bailed and tried to get away from it but as I ran down the hill it caught up and rolled right over me. My so called friends were laughing too hard to help! Back to the Big Bear. What is the top speed? How does it jump? How does it handel deep mud. I will probably get the Big Bear, Eiger 4x4 five speed, or the 450 Forman S. Give me some help!

Being that it is geared so low 2nd gear has plenty of power, top speed is a little over 45mph.

My brother-in-law has an '02 4X4 BB and loves it. Most of trail rides, he stays in 3rd gear all day. The thing has plenty of torque. The only time he had a problem in the mud was when he got caught up on a log. I've run side by side with him and the top speed is around 52 or so. It's not a sport quad, but it does handle respectably for what it is. He's only taken some small jumps, but nothing serious. My other brother-in-law has an '02 4X2 BB and he has taken some large jumps. It really isn't suspended right for the big stuff. One nice thing is that it goes almost anywhere the 4X4's go. My last brother-in-law has the Eiger. That is a nice quad. It seems to have more power than the Big Bear and has a better suspension. The Outlander is also worth a look, although pricier than the others. Enjoy!

yeah i agree. Go with the foreman or the eiger. all three are good but the foreman and eiger have more power and are just better.

I have ridden the BB 4x4 several times, lots of low end power....hills should not be a problem, but I personally would go with the Eiger....it does everything the BB will do...it just does it faster and sportier, and handles better. My buddy who has the BB has consistently clocked his in the mid 40s MPH, this is with the quads speedo and also his magellen gps. Congrats on whatever you purchase, they are all good machines.

A BIG BEAR IS A GOOD MACHINE. WHEN SHOPPING I WAS GOING BETWEEN A FOREMAN E AND A BIG BEAR. OVER ALL I THINK THE BB IS BETTER. COST 1 GRAND LESS- HAS MORE PULLING POWER (TOWING FOREMAN AROUND 900LBS AND BB IS AROUND 1200 BY SPECS.)- AND IS FASTER-. MY BUDDY HAS A FOREMAN E '01, NOW DONT GET ME WRONG THE FOREMAN THEIR ARE SOME THINGS THAT I WISH THE BB DID HAVE. I FRONT HEAD LIGHT ON THE HANDLE BARS IS NICE AND THE FOREMAN HAS A WIDER STAND MAKING IT ALITTLE MORE STABLE IN HILL CLIMBING. THE RIDE IS ABOUT THE SAME FOR BOTH. PLUS AT THE TIME I BOUGHT MY BB FOR $69 I GOT A WARN WINCH. GOOD LUCK IN WHAT EVER YOU GET.
