I need SOMETHING to clean my P-650 radiator. It tried to overheat TWICE, this w.e. Most of the mud is getting on the BACK side of the radiator, and turning to adobe.
Any recommendations? Suggestions? I am all ears..............................................

 

How are you cleaning it between rides? How often?

You really should be using a pressure washer after EVERY ride on the radiator. If you have a high pressure gas one, turn the pressure down on it. An electric one (like the one I use from WalMart) works great. You must be careful when using it and be sure to use a fan nozzle and ONLY spray straight on. If you get it from an angle you can damage the radiator. You must use common sense here. If there are parts you cant get to, break out the old garden hose and plan to hold it there for a long time. I spend a goot 30-45 minutes on my radiator alone each washing.

The HL washer is made for those mid day trail side washes. It is not made for a complete cleaning, only a trail side washing. For that its great. We use it about once a ride.

 

I use a 1300 psi washer on mine through the front. Keep going until the water runs clear.

 

The best way to check your work is to hold a flashlight behind the radiator. You should be able to see light through every square inch of it.

 

Yep, the radiator gets a thorough cleaning after EVERY ride, unless I am riding several consecxutive daysd(as was the case Mem.Day w.e.) I did, however, hose it down every evening. I am quite familiar with the radiator cleaning "ritual". I usually don't run hot, I guess that I was cleaning it well enough over the w.e., with the campground's garden hose.
I STILL need to design some inner fender splash shields, I think. A lot of the crap is getting in on the BACKSIDE of the radiator! Also, I like the flashlite check!

I'm thinking about doing something with the shields as well.
