Getting piston rings in the cyl?

Default Getting piston rings in the cyl?

Hey guys,
How should i get my piston rings on the piston but into the cyl. Compress them by hand? or get a specail tool? Thanks

A ring install tool is what I used...there are different types about $15-50
head to a local shop and rent/borrow if they will let you...if you braek a ring you'll be pissed and have to wait longer than you have already

Default Getting piston rings in the cyl?

you can use a large hose clamp. loosen it as you slide the cylinder over. Use 2 pieces of wood to keep the piston from going down into the case.

I just sorta worked them in by hand as I carefully eased the piston into the cylinder. A tool would be the best approach - I probably just got lucky !?

All i did was slightly tilt the cylinder to get one side of the ring started, then used a flat head to compress the other side.
