Predator Fuel Tank X-Brace tip
#1
Just a little tip for those of you who do your own work. The X-brace that runs just behind the fuel tank is mounted to the frame with 4 5/16x3/4"-18 pitch bolts. These bolts are grade 5 with red loctite on the threads. If you ever want to remove these, make sure to either heat the thread area, or possibly apply some Kroil, or Hoppe's (gun cleaner)to soften the loctite. If not, the bolts may snap flush with the frame. Once removed, you can clean the frame with a tap, and install some grade 8 bolts which are 1/4" longer. The added length is there because you can now install lock-washers, and use blue loctite. Then if you ever need them out, they'll be much easier to remove and much stronger supporting your frame. If you do snap one off, an E-Z out probably won't help you. If you are very careful, drill exact center. Then follow up with a .246 piloted ream. Once that is through, you can chase the rest with a tap. You can also drill the heads and safety-wire the bolts. Do this at your own risk, but it eases maint.. It's always a great idea to periodically check the security of the hardware on your machine.

I'm working out some pricing on some carbon fiber components. The main thing is the labor. There are others on the way that I can't talk about yet. Talk about a busy summer.
