how many guys carbs poped off their raptor??i have meeting with yamaha rep and will print this and give it to him when he denies problem if this dont work its lawyer time .

 

Mine did, I fixed it, with ZERO help from Yamaha. No big suprise though, they won't help with that, tranny, or the one way problems that they claim aren't a problem. Thats why I won't buy the new 450. Hopefully Honda will come out with something.

 

what you really need to print is a list of 01 tranny failures and give it to him

 

A few days ago my cousins raptor stopped in the middle of a ride and I had to tow him in. well we took the carb out and put it back in. I think the float was stuck. It fired right up. Great right?? Well I started it and gave it a test ride. I got onit a little and bang the carbs shot out of the intake. We went to the hardware store and bought some hose clamps and what do you know??? Its fine. Why in the hell do manufactures use sh*t that YOU NEED SPEcial TOOLS for. Whats wrong with a freak'n screwdriver anyway. Allen wrenches SUCK.

 

If you put the boots back on right they will work just fine.
There are bigger fish to fry than the carb boots.

My buddies 01 allways used to pop off until he got the 02 model intake and that fixed it.

 

When my 01 Raptor was completely stock I had a terrible problem with the carbs blowing off. Mine partially blew off one time and the quad hung WIDE OPEN! I posted the incident here in the Yamaha forum the following Monday morning. I had the quad in the shop (so this is documented) too have the problem fixed (still in 2001)....the mechanic said a rep told him too open the mixture screws a bit....still did not fix the problem. What fixed it? I increased the pilot jet size from 22.5 too 27.5....and properly adjusted the idle circuit with a vacuum guage. Problem solved.
Tell your Yamaha rep he should be ashamed too work for Yamaha considering the way Yamaha treated 01 Raptor owners. Yes, my transmission has failed....which he has probably read right here.
I can provide the shop that performed service if your rep needs it.

 

Mine used to pop off like once a week, for some reason they just stopped doing that. I have also replaced a one way bearing.

 

yeah, I too wanna know what he says about the trannies.. "what trannies??"

I think someone dedicated an entire site to it if I remember right.

As for the boots, I removed the little spacers from the clamps, richened the idle and up'd the idle a hair.. has been good for a year

 

No doubt, push the tranny issue more than anything!!!
