NCS has posted much that I agree with, but here I will have to differ. A clutch kit, even just a primary spring and secondary preload adjustment, should make a stock quad launch and accelerate better. The factory clutching, at least on the ones I've owned has been really lame. Set up for Joe Average Consumer. With limited funds, I would clutch it first. With the weak stock clutching, it won't take full advantage of the pipe.

ok then which pipe the HPD or the HSP i think the hpd almost needs the clutch kit but the hsp says no mods required ?

The hsp is one piece. You cant change the silencer and it is way loud. The hpd is much nicer and gives more hp. If you are going to spend that much on an hpd pipe your best bet would be the RCR stage 1 kit. It is around the same price.

Remember:
Just puting a Pipe on you polaris will not give you the gains you are looking for. In some instance you can acctually loose performance,Your engine can produce lots of power but it is useless if you can't put it to the ground. The only way to PROPERLY get more out of it is to go with a Pipe and Clutching to match the powerband of the pipe.
If you are looking for the best bang for the buck, RCR is the way to go, <U>HANDs DOWN.

Thanks Buba, that's what I was saying. Coming from snowmobiles, damn near everybody clutches, but not everybody buys pipes. The factory clutching is ALWAYS set middle-of-the-road. No need to spend money on a pipe until your sure you're getting the most out what you've got. Then, if that's not enough (it never is!), add the pipe. BTW, you don't need a clutch kit to make improvements over stock. A stiffer primary spring will allow the revs to come up before engagement thus improving your holeshot. That's about 12 bucks! Setting the preload on the secondary a little heavier will slow the upshift and speed the backshift, keeping you at higher rpm and more power. That's free! Just be careful not to rev to much, most people don't have a tach on there quad.
