Which gives more???????

I agree with you 95 and see were you would disagree with me on the previus post. I look at it like this and just giving my opinion here, the clutch is set up at the factory for the stock rpm range, correct?? Well, you can make some adjustments and get a little better bottom end performance from the primary spring, but as far as a complete clutch kit goes, which I would assume means helix, weights, springs, etc... It is not necessary or would be of no use whatsoever without the other mods to go with it, right?? Isn't the whole purpose of clutching to keep the rpm band in the sweet range or were the engine will make it's power?? Aren't you just changing the shape of the power curve by doing mods to the motor?? Yes, so it should be clutched accordingly. Now, if the guy gets a clutch kit only, it will not do any good and he would probably lose performance because you can actually rev way over the power curve or under for that matter with a few clutch changes. So... the reason I said pipe, is because with the pipe alone, he will notice some gains even with the stock clutching.. My opinion... Anyway, the least he could do is add a stiffer spring or two and forget the whole clutch kit... but, if it were my money and all I had, I would get the pipe first, then save money for the clutching.... JMO.
Oh yeh, and anyone that does any clutching, is going on someone else's word and it is just like taking a shot in the dark... All machines are different and altitudes, and many other factors can affect that, so to do any clutching properly and accurately, a tach needs to be used to aid in tuning. Also, just changing the clutch only, you can lose performance and just changing the pipe only, the same can happen, these are both things that need to happen together.

I have to throw my .02 in on this one. I am always in agreement on buying a pipe and clutch kit together or at least building the matching clutch components. BUT....... he wants the most acceleration without buying both. A lot of people in the forum have never heard of or run a Dynoport pipe. Most of you sledheads have definitely run or heard of them. I will let you know that just a pipe alone with a main jet change made my old 95 Sport pick up about 7 lengths in a 500ft race. It made it from point A to B in a hurry and all done with the stock clutching. I added a white spring and it made a nice improvement. Dynoport follows the same power range as the stock and works really well. They do gain several HP but do not increase top speed as a result of the same top RPM. I hade a great experience with the Dynoport and they were very helpful. Dont forget that all of their work is done around auto trannies. Again, just my .02 Bubba
