first dune ride on baja today
#1
i finally got my baja and took it to the dunes today and after putting some time in on mine i can see why they are considered the best quad for dune riding.after spending the day putting some break in time on the motor i finally opened it up to probably 80% of maximum and i am very surprised with the two stroke like power band that you get in 2nd and 3rd gear between approximately 5000 and 6000 rpm.before today i was sure i would be putting a pipe on and re jetting but the baja in stock form is fast enough for a general duning quad IMO.the suspension is the biggest surprise to me because at 260 lbs i would normally be changing out the shocks but not on the baja these are great factory shocks even for a bigger rider like me.in a drag race i was able to just squeak by my wifes 440 ex up our comp hill and that surprised both of us because her 440 can take a stock raptor pretty easily so i guess the baja stock is faster than a stock raptor?anyways as you can tell i was impressed and cant wait to get more ride time in.today i also tried my GBC sand devil 8 paddle tires on my baja and i know some of you may think they may not perform well but after today i can recommend them if you want a durable molded paddle tire that will hold up well and deliver good performance.well i guess that is enough rambling for now but i thought a little review of my first ride on the baja might be helpful to someone who is thinking about buying one so i hope this is info someone can put to good use.

dune rode christmas valley this weekend with bigslim he went to 14-40 and a pipe and cdi and he was running good. there was a new raptor and banshee that lined up with us that was the only moment that they were in the same line it was fun to see the smile he had, three ds's and then them. they did get there buddy with the 450 honda and he edged me at the end. well glad you liked it look into the cdi you will really like that, plus the lower gearing will make the front come up nice for going over razor backs.

duneittilludie, got my baja about a month and a half ago, and this weekend was the first time i rode it since i put on the cdi and trinity pipe. i could tell it was faster, but i wasn't racing any stock ds's so i couldn't tell how much faster (plus i have only previously ran it at sea level and we were at better than 4000ft). like sandman said though, i easily took every quad out there except the other 2 ds's. i'm very happy with this bike (and to think I was going to go with the v-force, glad i made the right decision) i'm going to be over at florence on 4th of july weekend with sandman and some others so will test it out with a few stock ds's over there. are you going over that weekend?

BIGSLIM78- yes i will be at florence on the weekend of the fourth but i am not sure which days i will get over there .the stock power of the baja is much better than i thought it would be so for now at least i will be leaving it totally stock.if i could find a pipe that would meet sound regulations or at least close to them i would do that and re jet but so far i cant find a pipe for the baja that is quiet enough.
