whether to put a long rod or keep original in my 250r
#1
ok guys I need some help with my 85 250r. I blew the rod in it and have to get it replaced and I want to know if I should go with a long rod or stay with stock size. I have a 310 kit with v-force reeds and I primarily ride in the sand but very rarely get in the top gears. The bike is already fast but will a long rod make it less dependable and more of a race bike and less of a ride to have fun and race occasionly bike. give me some help please the crank gets shipped out Tuesday.

I long rodded my banshee and wasted $200 worth gas or beer. Stay stock on Rod lenghtbut strokin it would be awsome if you have that extra $$$.

Honda went to the longer rod in 87 and changed the piston to increase durability.
If you go for the longer (5mm longer if OEM) rod you will not increase your stroke, you would need to have your crankshaft altered or go for an aftermarket crankshaft to do that.
You can get the longer rod and use an 87-89 style piston with no problems at all. Use the 87-89 style piston with the longer rod and you will not have to use a spacer plate. The wrist pin is located 5mm higher in the piston. You will end up with the very same bore and stroke you started with.
