Default 86 350 drive shaft !

Im wondering how to remove the drive shaft on an 86 350 honda. I have to take the left side cover off the engine because it is leaking. I also noticed a crack in the engine it is sealed up but the crack is right behind the kickstarter shaft. Could something in the kick starter assembly let go and break the engine case ? I was going to buy the repair manual but I have since then gotten cheap and now I would much rather fix it without the manual to save money. LOL

Thanks for you help !

Default 86 350 drive shaft !

I posted that exact question afew weeks ago when I had the same problem. There's a circular washer thing that is conveniently hiding a pressure ring. It's quite simple to get this shaft off. You gotta tap the thicker shaft afew millimeters towards the rear of the 4 wheeler. Then you can slide that washer thing back a bit and get a better view of the pressure ring; remove this ring, then tap that thicker shaft towards the front of the 4 wheeler and it'll slide up the thinner shaft and then out of the spline at the transmission housing.( Hope you have a pan ready, cause this is when you'll have the motor oil coming out!) Then just take off those 2 bolts that are holding the thing to the side of the motor, by the front, and loosen the screw that holds the rubber around the shaft, at the front of the driveshaft, and bend the thing down and just slip it outta there... yah I'm not good with the names of all these parts. You should find the original post and compare responses, if you don't understand.

dzzy: loosen and remove the boot clamp at the front of the cover, remove the two long bolts with 12mm heads. remove the circlip on the rear part of the shaft and slide it forward. slide the collar on the rear of the shaft forward to disengage the back (that is why you need to dislodge the circlip. you may need to catch the "bit of a ridge" on the collar with a chisel or old screwdriver to move it forward. Then slide the whole mess forward, rotate a little and disengage from the front driveshaft.

Hey!! That's right, that was my post. Sorry I didn't mention the oil Seth, I forgot about that, but not much comes out. Hope it didn't make a mess for you. Sounds like you got it down tho.

Just in the search box try typing in "driveshaft" or "fourtrax", or you can start clicking back around the pages of 13-15... I believe it's around there. I believe I wrote driveshaft as one whole word... No dzzy I didn't endup having a big mess or anything. I was already prepared with the oil pan since I knew the motor oil was gonna be coming out reguardless *
