Polaris plastic/Krylon Fusion
#1
I'm going to try the Krylon Fusion on the Xplorer I just picked up. Don't really like the green much. The bad thing will be like some other brands of quads that are painted, once you scratch it you'll see the old color underneath. I'll lay some heavy clear over the top to help resist scratching. I'll let you know how it turns out and hopefully post some pics. Wish me luck!

Preliminary testing does not look encouraging. I decide to start with the underside of the front cover. That's the piece that covers the oil tank on the 2-strokes. It's not very big. In order to change color it takes MANY coats. I'd say I used almost 1/3 of a can just to do this little part. At $4.50/can, it would cost quite a bit to try to change the color of a whole quad. For my next experiment, I think I'll try painting over some scratches with the SAME color. Who knows how well it will match. As far as how well this stuff holds up, it takes 7 days to fully cure for maximum chip resistance. Oh well, trying new stuff is half the fun!
