Polaris 500SP-"Big Dog"-16" Ground Clearance
#3
I have seen the Big Dog in person, but he was avoiding all the mud holes. I think he had a water pump problem (uh oh, can I say that here?), so he was trying to go easy on it. Didn't keep him from pulling out the Foreman 550 though!
Maybe in a couple weeks I'll see him really go at it, if it ain't broke. It's a mean looking machine...

My god that thing is massive! What mudhole could it not make it through that something else could? I bet it wouldn't be worth a crap in steep hills and off cambers though. It is up there! You could probably crawl under it from front to back if the mood hit you to do so.

Does anyone have any pics of anything similar to this? With 28's, or 27x12's all the way around, dual winches ,etc.?

On a sadder note, I talked to Highlifter today and commented on how bad this thing looked. He said it was a piece! Said they took it out 6 times and it broke 5 of those times. He said it was up for bidding or something. In other words, they are getting rid of it cause it sucks. I was sad to hear this. Maybe all that crap is just too much for the machine to handle. I mean, heavy tires, odd cv joint angles. At least its cool to look at. He said it was a mud monster though when it wasn't breaking down, but all and all, he was not impressed by the quality that Polaris exhibited.

Yea I think they got a bad one. There are plenty of other Sportsmans out there without problems. I have seen some with bigger tractor tires, and homemade lifts with spacers twice the size of Highlifters. Last time I saw Mike in the mud with his Sportsman a few months ago he was saying how he hated it, because he never had to work on his Honda. If I was him I would sell it too. They aren't all bad though, ours with lifts and big tires are fine.
