Recon jet size recommendations???
#1
My 2003 Honda recon 250 has a stock #95 jet in it from the factory. I am getting ready to put a KN air filter on it and slightly enlarge the snorkle hole(or drill an extra).Does this lean the carb or make it richer? Please pardon my ignorance but I have to learn somehow I guess. I also plan on re-reading some jetting tips that I have found but I thought I would get your opinions as well. I am in Arkansas so my recon uses the standard jet at this point. I think elevation is around 1100 to 1300 feet around here. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I checked the archives first but I am looking for a little more specific information.

Cutting the snorkle will LEAN it out big time. Ours has the snorkle cut off, a uni filter, and a Supertrapp and I had to go to a 110 main. I'm guessing you'll probably need a 105. It makes quite a big difference performance wise as you will see.

I am also at an above sea level (2500ft) best thing ALWAYS is to do a plug-chop. I put all that too and a pipe and silencer and went from 148 main jet to a 150 and the idle jet from a 50 to a 45 and my plug seems good, actually on the rich side if anything. To be more acturate, can't beat a plug chop

When my son rode a Recon, I also cut out the hole on the snorkle, stock is only about the size of a quarter !!, as stated above, it leaned it out big time, had a Dyno jet kit in there, none of the jets were big enough, had to order more jets to get it right!! ended up about 5 sizes over what came with the kit, made a big difference, and this was with stock filter and exhaust. The only bad thing that I noticed was it revved so much nicer, it hit that incredibly low rev limit Honda likes to put on it's ATV's. Had to shift more, to keep the rpm's down, but it made it real snappy across the power band. In fact, I ended up melting a little plastic back on the hole, just to keep the air flow from bogging out the carb-- hard to beleive such a little snorkle makes such a big difference.

moto93-Are those dyno jet sizes or the stock carb sizes?
95wolv-If you dont mind me asking how much were the extra dynojet and can you remmeber what size was needed?
I think I might try doing this to get some more power and air incase I decide to get a pipe for my little recon.
