In most racing organizations, your class age is up to 15 years old. Thus you are fine there.
As far as money spent on parts and the gain achieved,It's prolly possibly to do fair in your class (90cc mniquad).
If your a small person, then you could get a couple years out of your yam-80.Altho,you can ask anyone and you will find that a LT80 or most any of the import 90's will beat a yam-80.
If you are tall or above 140 pounds, then I would put my money into advancing into a 300ex/blaster.
I do hope you know that I'm not ragging on your yamaha one bit. It's a great ride, but rarely raced. This is my opinion based on having a yam 80 years ago and wanting to have the kid race. And of course, racing mini's now for 10+ years.
I wish you luck in your racing career.

try modding the airbox, getting a bigger carb, adjusting the jets, get a new airfilter, get it ported, and take some of the heavy junk off. or if u really want more power get a blaster or a Z250
