Sportsman90 or Preditor90
#1
In three weeks we will be getting our first quads!! I will be getting a sportsman 600, and my daughter has chosen the sportsman 90 over the preditor 90. She is not very aggresive and plans on mostly just riding around behind me.WE will be riding trails etc.. I don't think she will ever really be racing or jumping.I do however want any input on quality of this little sportsman versus the preditor. If anyone has any input on these comparing these 2 for her use I would appreciate a responce. She is 8 and weighs 70 pounds.

I have a SP 90 that was new in Dec '02 that a 7, 9, 10, and 12 yr old ride and they really like it.
Start her off with the throttle restricted until she understands about slowing down while making sharp turns, braking, etc... then open throttle litte more each time.
I am not positive, but I don't think there is much difference between SP 90 and Pred 90 other than bodywork and appearance which means the SP 90 will keep her much cleaner due to fenders.
We have kept our SP 90 out of deep mud/water and the brakes are gone already. I currently have a post on this subject and waiting to see if anybody has had this problem. Brakes will cost approx $75 for f/r and my dealer told me he thought he could get it covered under warranty (???)
Overall, the SP 90 is fun to ride and the kids love it, but I am starting to get concerned about durability. Polaris does not make this quad, made in Korea (?) by Aeon, so it is a clone of many other small quads

The extra wheel travel over the other minis is a significant reason I chose the SP 90. I consider that a safety factor for the kids if/when that big bump/ditch is hit.
Pred 530, I see you are from Mt Pleasant, Tx. Did you get your Pred 90 from Askins in Texarkana ?

$75 was price quoted from dealer for both fronts and rear brake. I thought that was high, but also thought brakes should last longer than 6 months.
The problem with the rear is that the nuts that hold the rear hubs on were loose and cotter pins were doing there job in keeping the nuts on the axles. The hubs press the sleeves over the axles against the brake drum, so it was all moving around and letting water/mud inside the drum.
It wasn't loose enough to notice wheels moving, but I noticed it when took hub off to inspect brakes. Didn't even need a wrench to get nuts off after removing cotter pins (both sides) Nuts were not tightened enough by factory during assembly OR dealer after shipment.
I wonder if dealer has to mount wheel/hubs after shipment ? Maybe that is why dealer is wanting to cover brakes under warranty.
