2001 scrambler vs. 2003 scrambler (4x4's)
#2
'BUBASCRAMBLER' provided this to me a year ago; it is an update history of the scrambler.
97 and older 4x4s are Chain Drive in the Front (From what I hear, Terible design)
98 got Front Shaft drive.(++++)
98 got Concentric Rear Chain Drive. (Helps elimate chain binding and breakage +++++)
99 got a Rear FOX w/reservoir on 4x4 models
00 got different Rear Brake foot Lever from 99.
00 got 2 more inches of rear suspension travel with a swing arm change. Also got 2 stage rear spring.
(A LOT better CUSHIOR ride ++++++++)
01 got Lifetime belt warranties
01 got better brakes ( Drilled and slotted rotors, Upaded pads, Updated Brake lever and Fluid Reservoir,Steel Braded Line
01 Late 01 models got sealed bearing to support the Steering Shaft (Steering effort was decreased and Durability up)
02 got a Gear case saver behind Drive sprocket. (Helps elimate case cracking when and if chain Breaks
03 gets a SPLICELESS drive belt.

03's also got a drain plug on the PVT case and the plastic oil reservoir. I am also pretty sure the 99's were the last to come with aluminum wheels, bumpers and floorboards. From 2000 and up they now have the heavy steel components.

Trailblazer 400 O3’s also got decent sport tires, earlier models have tractor treads.

I have a 97 scrambler 4x4. I have the fox rear shock with the reservoir. Is that normal for the 97 or was it an option? I have a friend who has a 98 polaris magnum and we went down the road and I was suprised to see that we were almost even on the accelerating and he had a slightly higher top speed. I was suprised, because his machine is alot larger and heavier. Maybe he has the H.O. motor? - it doesent say he has the h.o. on the quad anywhere...
I have another question, my 97 has a chain drive front. The chain goes on a sproket and is in direct drive to both wheels in front...that makes it a true 4x4. locked front axle and rear. I dont believe alot of quads are like this....I dont think the newer scramblers are like this either, they have a front shaft going into a differential.... anyone know?

As far as i know it was stock, maybe they started later in the year putting fox shocks on.And as far as 4wd as far as i know all polaris 4wd's have a locking front end evan the newer ones.Dominator, Aaen makes a great slip on that really wakes up the 97's

The 4x4 Scramblers always has a FOX shock with Reservoir
The 99 and Prior ((((Sports)))) (2x4) did not have the Reservoir
It is a bit confusing why they did not communize until 2000,
But as stated 2000 got 2 more inches of rear suspension travel and both 2 and 4 wheel drive was labled a Scrambler
Oh BigBad
I bought 2 of those gear case protectors but there is no boss to bolt it on, they also redesigned the case a little to accept the protector.
