I'm seeing the term "tree huggers" a lot lately on this and other atv sites. I tend to see a conflict in this anti enviromentalism in relation to atv enthusiasts. I may not be able to relate because I am from West Virginia. I'm fortunate that we literally have unlimited riding areas and atv's do little damage to this enviroment. The only thing that affects us is logging which blocks our trails due to the mess some companies leave. I do realize that there are actual "treehuggers" just as there are anti hunters and other extremists. However, most atv'rs I know respect the land and enjoy the natural beauty. Most atv'rs I know do not litter or destroy other peoples property. I feel the term "treehuggers" is a bit general and promotes an us against them mentality. I think many of us fall in the middle somewhere, in that we respect the enviroment. We are against excessive logging and or commercialization of wilderness areas so that we may ride atv's to any location we choose. Atv'rs should be pro-enviromental if we want to continue to have unspoiled natural wilderness to ride in. It beats the hell out of riding in a parking lot. Any comments??

tree huggers are the people that want battery operated cars, no gas emissions.basically they are a group of people that have nothing to do with their time then to bash people for having fun. ya know save the whales and all that ****. as for loggers, i ride in maine and the the loggers cut some pretty nice trails for me and they replant what they take. i cant really bash the loggers cause we need wood, plain and simple. as for the other folks that are so PRO ENVIRONMENTAL,i would love to drag them through a mud bog on my grizzly.most atv people i have meet, respect the land! they dont liter, except for maybe leaving some tiolet paper after doing thier duty in the woods.i live in new jersey and their isnt too much land to ride on with out paying a fee. most land is illegal to ride on. my town will confiscate yout atv for a mandatory 30 days at 15 bucks a day for riding on illegal land.kinda pricey i think. i just dont stop. the town bought atvs to stop us from riding in this one section.(it consists of about 500 acres of trails and swamp) stupid them bought little hondas with no 4x4. the cops would chase us and then yell hey pull us out and we will let you go. i think not.moma may have raised an ugly kid, but she didnt raise a stupid one...... GRIZZLY POWER.......

I should qualify that I said SOME logging companies leave a mess. They never replant but they don't need to because it overgrows very quickly here. There are 4-wheeler paths on virtually every mountain in WV so the loggers usually end up blocking a path till someone cuts a new one. I'm not against logging, it enabled me to build a house etc. But there are good companies and bad ones, just like anything. Some states are pretty harsh on atv's, I thought this was a free country. The only place we are not supposed to ride is the New River Gorge National Park and other parks. On a side note, WV has the highest ATV sales in the nation. Not bad for a bunch of freak'n hillbillies.

Both of you have made very good points. Yes we all should be in favor of the enviorment as live and breath it every day. But some of those tree hugger shave to go I have heard of some that would string Piano wire across a trail so as to remove you from your quad if not worse. Growing up on a farm you learn to love the land at least I did and most atvers would do nothing to harm the enviroment.
Sounds like WV is a great place to ride have a few friends from around Logan,Matewan, and I think Bluefield.
Will defintely be up to ride on Hatfield Mcoy trail after it opens.

Tree huggers are communists, plain and simple..Something else the treehuggers would like to see happen:
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about
20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

"In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million
Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

"Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million
Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and
exterminated.

"China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million
political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

"Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan
Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

"Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

"Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million
'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated."

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because
of gun control: 56 million.

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, ask them "Who do YOU
want to round up and exterminate?" With guns, we are citizens. Without them,
we are subjects.

Something to think about... Don't let the liberal media control your mind
with their propaganda blitz. They want to blame crime on gun ownership to
justify eventual gun confiscation, but their soft on crime law enforcement
and pro-violence and immoral entertainment industry is the real cause.

Most of the politicians in both parties are controlled by the liberal
establishment. In effect, we have a one party system. They deserve academy
awards.

The Bible says, "A strong man armed protects his home." _____

Man, this topic is getting profound but good point nonetheless. Sometimes we like to take a little heat with us when we ride because you never know what or who you'll run into out in the boonies.
