Outlander clutch....clunk

With the cover off, and the engine running, I can actually see the drive clutch move over to engage the belt and go "CLUNK". We took it apart, polished the surfaces where they interface, and it still does it.
Out of 5 Outlanders we checked out, this is the only one that does it. I think it's defective/ out of balance, so instead of a smooth transition it jumps, and clunks. Anybody have a clunker out there?
