if it were me i would back off to maybe a 168 main jet and see how that works. how does the plug look? usually a high rpm sputter would be a main jet being to rich. if that doesnt work then do plug checks

Maybe it's just where I'm used to the thumb throttle, but I much prefer it to the twist. I feel like I'm holding more solidly onto the handle bars. I'd like a twister for long trips though!! Damn throttle thumb!!!

My cousin has the Honda 250X (or is it SX) 1987 model which has the twist throttle. He likes that much more because he's used to motor bikes. I personally just find a lot more throttle variation when you're going over bumps with a twister due to the flex in your wrist ..

I perfer a twist over a thumb throttle anyday (I know how to ride a motorcycle much better then a jet ski :-) But I have to warn you, and I'd think others would agree with this. In the dirt, riding all out, "Hell bent" in other words. I've gotten myself in trouble because while holding on for "Dear Life" I've been unable to get off the gas and well, I'm sure you can figure out what can and has happened to me. In the dunes, I much perfer the Twist, bit while riding in the dirt, it seems I have a little more control with the Thumb throttle. But, I'm about to install the Trail Tech set up with thier 1 1/8th X bar and I also purchased Motion Pro's twist throttle kit for the V which I'll be installing at the same time. Thats my take on the diff between the two. Putt

One time i was riding my banshee thru a long set of whoops and throttle got stuck wide open in 4th gear. Needless to say after i got over the shock of what was happening i tried to let off the gas and couldnt my wrist was stuck at full throttle. I was barely able to get 1 finger on the clutch lever and took enough power away for the front end to come down. The people i was riding with were saying that it looked sweet , wheelying thru whoops that fast and for that long, but it wasnt done purposely. I learned 2 things that day. How smooth and peaceful skimming across whoops can be at those speeds, and get a thumb throttle ASAP.

All personal preference, but the twist grip releives the pressure on your thumb

Thumb throttle any day, why, because of accidents. If you like jumping go with thumb, if you like whoops go with thumb.

I agree with YFZ660R and why would you bring up all these old threads form the past when it would have been just as easy to start a new thread.

I'm still a beliver in that thumb throttles are so your girlfriend who doesn't ride can get to the bathrooms w/o crashing.

A twist is much better in all places even whoops and jumps. You have more controll with a twist because you can wrap your whole hand around the grip. Personally I won't ride with a thumb throttle. I've had my glove get stuck between the lever and the grip which stuck the throttle more than once.

IMHO----------> If you can't ride with a twist you should take up a new hobby because your not coordinated enough to ride!

My first mod on any ATV I buy is to ditch the thumb.

Hey deautaronomy. I also always wondered about a twist on a quad. Here's another thing to think about. I think it is Kawasaki that has a finger pull throttle on their 4 stroke jetski. You use your right finger to pull on the throttle. It has the advantage that you can have the other 3 fingers and thumb securely wrapped around the grip. After market companies also make these things. Just another idea to throw in the mix.
