Default 86 350 Honda tranny trouble !

The other day I was riding towards a mud hole. I was in second gear I let off the throttle to shift to third gear. After I pulled up and released the shifter I was back on the throttle fast and hard all I could hear was a click, click, click, click from the tranny then the gear engaged and almost give me whiplash. Sometimes I have to attempt the shift twice because no gear engages. I am thinking that the shift drum might be wore. What are everyones thoughts on this ?

Thanks
Darryl

I'd drain the oil and check the filter to see if you're getting a lot of metal particles coming out. Check the clutch freeplay, if it looks good, yer probably looking at an internal tranny problem. Time to split the cases.

Ya I was planing on draining the oil and sifting through it ! I will also pull the filter apart and look at that as well. I am about 100 % sure its the tranny because when I can shift through the gears (most times I can) the quad pulls hard and strong. If the clutch needed to be adjusted it probably wouldn't pull as strong. I am not ruleing out the clutch just yet though.

Thanks for your help !

I was also thinking a bent shift fork ! But if it was a bent shift fork I would always have the shifting problem. The thing is sometimes it will shift fine. I find it shifts better if I shift quick instead of taking my time shifting.
