Default Best way to lighten up the V-Force..............

I have been thinking about trying to lighten up my green monster. Any good ideas would be appreaciated.

My current thoughts were to change hubs, wheels and tires. I have not personally weighed the stock tires but I have been told the rears are 27lbs each. I wonder if it is possible to save maybe 20+ lbs by changing out all 4?

any thoughts regarding beadlock wheels, carbon fiber wheels, etc?

The first thing i would look for is a lighter battery, then tires and maybe some carbon fiber.

The tires I bet would save a fair bit of weight, get some radials on there and try them out. I'm going to try my Z400 tires and rims on my V on my next vacation and experiment a little. I'll have to swap the hubs on the rear as well too. It should also provide a better ride and more power. A lighter battery is a good idea too, aluminum a-arms of you can get some made up. A new frame would be expensive but make the quad a fair bit lighter. Rear axle too. Machine a new driveshaft out of titanium so it can be smaller and lighter but still as strong. I believe alltoys may have made titanium driveshafts for his P650, not sure though.

I'm not sure what else can be done. Write Penland and ask him, I'm sure he could help you out some. The P650 is basically a V700, he might have ideas.

I read this in either atv magazine or atv sport...but when kawi was first doing some testing on it they tried radials except there was to much side wall flex so I wouldnt go with the radials untilll you lighten it up a fair amount

I can see the sidewalls flexing, I won't go nuts on the radials, I won't be buying them, just swapping them over to see how it works.

after replacing my pipe with a slip on, I'm sure it lost 3-4 lbs. There's a start. 4 Skat sand tires on aluminum, maybe 18lbs. The thing still weighs a ton. Future possibilites: Fill the tires with helium, for 1/8 lb. Get a smaller gas tank for 10lbs. Go on a diet 20lbs. Smaller battery? Sounds good for 7 lbs. I guess I could leave behind my 100oz camelback, or fill it with Coke. All those bubbles should make it lighter.

you could go with a smaller gas tank but then you would need to carry a gas can! later

I stopped eating 2 cheeseburgers for dinner at 10:30 at night. Really we own fat fast harley-like quads, the larger fuel tank will add quite a bit of weight when full(4.6 compared to 3.2 gals). I agree that the frame will shave the most weight but cost ya an arm and leg...

My new HiPer rims(carbon fiber) are soooo much lighter than the stock rims, I will weigh all four rims and tires and let you guys know how much they weigh. I also changed the rear hubs to Durablue Honda hubs and the stock hubs were definitely much heavier!! Check out the pictures of my V still awork in process, waiting for my {ProArmor nerfs and haven't decided on the right pipe yet. Also the stock bars are exactly the lightest pices of metal on this planet. LOL!!
