Is this Blaster worth buying?
#1
I know someone selling a 2001 Blaster in good shape for $1100. This is what he says is wrong with it. Think its worth buying? What do you think it would cost me to get it running? Thanks!
- Motor has 100 PSI Compression (What does this mean?)
- Needs gas tank
- Tank plastic
- Carburator Boot

sorry about that previous post by me, my thing screwed up. but i have some answers...
the motor has about 100 pounds per square inch of compression ( which means it's WAY WAY WAY time to do a new rebuild !) i wouldn't dare run it with that little compression. a good rebuild cost like 350$
gas tank is about 200$
tank plastic is just pocket change
carburator boot shouldn't be to steep do some shopping for it all.

So figure it needs about $600 in work. Should I offer him less money or is that a reasonable price? It seems like it must've been heavily used for it to need a rebuild in 2 years. Think I should walk and find something else?

it might be over 600 but not over 700 prolly
so you put it together and figure it's going to cost you about 1700-1800$
that's pretty reasonable considering you'll be lucky to find a perfect running one for under 2 grand.
tell him you're intersted but at the same time you might could do a lil shoping around.

The Blaster your looking at has bad compression , all you will need to do is the topend , , if you do it your self it will be fairly cheap lets say around $150.00 the gast tank will only cost you around 20 to 50 dollars if you like to shop on ebay or jumk yards , the plastic for the tank new are only $29 and the carb boot on ebay right now are selling for about $5.00 so with a little bit of money you will have a great quad , always check around for the best price , it will save you alot in the long run.

if the carbuerator boot is torn and he rode it like that it will have more than just top end damage, u will most likely have to replace crank and/or rod bearings which is not very fun or cheap. walk away from that one and shop around.

Well the carb boot isn't torn, it's missing. It could've been torn and he might've just taken it off so I wouldn't think it was ridden that way. Or somebody could've just swapped it since the bikes been just sitting around. I guess its a gamble. I'm still thinking on it. If he goes under $1100 then I'll probably buy it.
