Default 04' DS650 Baja X vs YFZ450

Today I raced a YFZ450 and I won six out of six times. Both Machines were stock and we both switched machines for three races a piece. I weigh 255lbs and my friend weighs 170lbs. It didn't matter who was driving what machine, My DS would pull on his YFZ as soon as the DS shifted into second gear. I must say that that YFZ is one crazy *** quad! That machine just flat out rips, especially for a 450. It seemed that the 450 was accelerating faster than my DS but the DS was pulling away. I think that because the YFZ is so much smaller and the suspension and seat are firmer that the "seat of the pants" feel it so much different. Our "drag" races were on pavement, flat straight ground for about 150yards (450 feet). The difference wasn't dramatic, only about 1 1/2 lengths at the 300ft mark and about 2 1/2 lengths or a little less at the end. I am however also very impressed with the new 04' Baja x. I couldn't ask for a better machine as of yet! It doesn't feel as quick as th YFZ but the results proved otherwise. This isn't a post to cause an argument, I just thought some people would want to know some results that aren't BS.

well the new ds has lost a wopping 50 pounds, which will make a huge difference, i dont believe this though, ive seen videos of stock yfz450 making it up dunes that some banshees couldnt, he must of been a bad driver...

Well I don't have any dunes around here to try them out. We only raced on pavement. We didn't try any dirt yet either, but we will. Then he is going to do some light mods to see if there is a big difference. (air box, K&N, Jets, Maybe take the baffle out) I'll keep you posted on other results. Who knows after those changes maybe he will blow me away, WE WILL SEE!

Their is no reason not to believe .

ON sand, racing up hill the YFZ would definatley have the advantage, but on flat ground the DS's wieght doesn't hurt it as much.

Bigger.

Just posting what I saw this weekend at Land between the Lakes- There were a pair of YFZs there, and put on quite a show. They were racing on flat dirt, and it was a little moist. They raced a DS650, and beat him by about 4-5 quad lengths. Raptor, about the same. I didn't see them out on the trails, so I didn't get to see how they do on steep hills. I know, you got to throw in rider capability, conditions, better holeshot, but all thier wieghts were fairly close, and they all seemed like capable riders. Just what I saw....

i know there is no way a ds650 will run with a yfz in the sand stock for stock. i saw a couple 450's this weekend and they were fast. I saw one completely stock even tires beat a piped raptor, ds, and z400 with pipe and cams. I also saw one with a gytr pipe that was beating piped banshees by 3-4 lengths sounded good too.

I'm sure the new lighter DS helps. The big thing is the YFZ is really plugged up! You really need to pull the Baffle and re-jet it. It will be like a whole different ride. There is only so much air that can flow through that pea shooter on the 450 and it really lacks a big punch on top till it is opened up.

Cop, Have you ridden with or compared your DS to some of the older ones are the new changes very noticable? I love the look of that new Baja X nice ride.

Come on BajaX there is no room on these boards for being reasonable! We will not stand for it! You must flame, whine or argue, or any combination of all 3.But no! Reasonable behavior will absolutely not be tolerated!

I just wanted to add a comment that I saw and ran against a 450 this weekend, they are even faster than I imagined. He was beating all comers. He beat hill shooting banshees (up our little hill at Little Saraha), my buddies Ds650 (stock with paddles and piped, filtered, jetted, and geared down) by more lengths than you can count, my womans z400 by alot, any Raptor in the place.
Wow they are fast. If it only had somebody else's name on the side.....
