Default Sportsman 500 or Scrambler??

hey all. i'm new to the sport of riding quads and at home i have a sportsman 500. it's at 1996 model. now my dad said that he's thinking about getting 1 or possibly 2 more quads by next year. my guess is that he's going to have one for my brother and for myself. i've been looking at the sportsman 500 and the scramblers. which would be the better buy for me. i mostly like to climb up big hills. dont' do too much jumping with the quad. i want lots of power. to climb up those big hills and it obviously has to be all wheel drive. that's a must for me i am more of the person that just likes to take his 4 wheeler off roading and make his own trails. you know, his our little paradise to ride. so which quad would fit me better. the sportsman 500 or a scrambler??

Thanks

Matt Jones (a.k.a. Jonesy)

The Scrambler is definitely gonna be more sporty. If you want to powerslide, do a little jumping and want more sporty feel, the Scram is the ticket. I had one before I bought my Predator. I really enjoyed it. If you are looking for a better, softer ride, the IRS of the Sportsman is better for you. They are not really good jumpers. They can be modded to accelerate better, but still they are utility quads at heart. I like the Sportsmans that we have, but I'm not ready to settle down and ride one. This is not a rip on the Sportsman. Just comparing apples and oranges, I reckon.

i like the scramblers a lot. i like the sportyness they have and the fact that you can jump on them makes me want to buy it. i am what you call..a crazy psyco rider. i'll try just about anything. i am an agressive rider so i think that the scramber will probobly do my better than the sportsman. if i do get a scrambler which model. the 330, 400, or 500?

Thanks

If you like deep mud, the Sportsman would be the better choice.

If you are a more aggressive rider, I would go for the Scrambler.

Are you getting new or used?? The 400 is a 2 stroke and can be modded to make an unreal amount of horsepower. The 500 is a 4 stroke and has less maintness and is a very smooth torqey motor. They stopped making the scrambler 400 4x4's in 2001 ( they did have a limited edition 2002 scrambler 400 4x4) The new 2004 scrambler 500 4x4 has an AWSOME looking black plastic too

I would go with the scramblers,if you buy a new one I would go with the 500,but if you go buy a used one,buy a good 400 cause their are faster than a 500.Oh by the way hillclimber they dont make a 330 scrambler but they do make a 330 trailboss or magnum.
