Adjusting DS chain
#1
I read some old posts about this topic and the manual as well, but I still have a few questions. When I rotate the sprocket hub, there is a couple of spots ( little "holes", or grooves in the axle housing I believe it is) that prefectly line up with the holes in the sprocket hub for adjusting the chain. It doesn't seem like it matters which one I use to line up the sprocket hub holes and stick my screw-driver in. Does it matter? The pic in the manual does not show clearly which one they use but I can roughly guess which one from the pic. Right now, I have about 2" of play in my chain with my weight. What is consider too much play and too little? Can something be damaged with too much play? The 2004 has 4 rear axle lock bolts. There is a pattern to follow when i tighten ( 17lb each bolt). Is there a correct way to loosen the bolts? Any help would be great...

yeah..i know..there is a sticker on the bottom of the rear fender telling me that the chain play should be 7/8" with rider weight. i have to buy a torque wrench. will i cause damage if i drive with 2" of play for a while?
