engine cooling
#1
since going to the 720 i've been wondering about engine cooling. i lost my fan early on and changed it to in line coolers and shrouds and engine ice. well gary was able to talk me into the fan with the new engine. so when i first installed the engine and fan thing seemed to get warm pretty fast, the fan would kick on and things would cool down, rather normal if not a little more thought this was part of the larger piston and all. well as time went on the fan seemed to quit working, so yester day i pulled some lines and checked the fan, it all worked and made me feel better so i wired in a switch to kick the fan on as i wish. so after finishing up i decided to run the engine until the fan kicked on. it never did, seems after the engine broke in it doesn't run hot, may be the higher octane but, it seems to run cooler than stock. i was rather pleased at this. well i remember there was a lot of concern about the bigger piston in the past and heat.

sandman, my 720 at pismo did not break 165degrees after running it constantly, it could be the higher octane, i know what your sayin though, mine happens to run much cooler than normal too, but i do run fan contantly with switch..i dont know if this is correct, but i have heard that running engine ice would do some extra damage to motor parts if head gasket decides to leak...have you gutted your thermostat??

no everything is stock, and i read your was running cooler a few weeks ago. the only reason i took the time to post this is there was a lot of talk months ago about the steel sleeve not cooling as well and running hotter, well i'm finding it to run cooler. but maybe i'm missing something since i don't have a temp gauge to know what the number is. the light comes on at start up but that is it.

You should really get an ESR Temp gauge for that thing. You are asking for trouble depending on those Idiot lights. And yes you need the Fan with these motors. You could have a bad sender switch, they go out all the time. It is better to be safe than sorry.

where do you get those at? the thing is it feels cool i've run it in the past to where the light came on and you could feel the heat. don't feel that anymore but this is also in mid 70 for outside temp, never in the hot stuff probably be running hot. well i wired in a jumper switch so i can hit the fan any time now.
