what pipe do you have? i would try a 170 -180 main for the stock carb seems to work fine around here, and they only cost about 3-4 bucks spend the rest on a front sprocket. but if you already have all this sorry.

MBRP Full race exhaust
KN filter (not the carb mounted, but the standard airbox one)
with an outerwear
o do i only need to buy mainjets?
what all is included in a "jet kit" just a bunch of jets or what?
(im really new to the whole jetting a carb, so any help is appreciated...i decided to try it on my own instead of giving a shop like 50-75 bucks to do it...)
thanks guys

A jet kit is a waste of money in my book...you won't even touch 1/4 of the jets they supply you with....Just buy jets individually...There are 2 kinds...pilots and mains...and the only one you need to worry about is mains...they are a few bucks each...And you'll probably just need 1 if you think it out right...You can try visiting the DS 650 Jetting chart at Buttfungus's website...it's VERY helpful...Just look in his signature for it

I agree, the ONLY thing you are buying is the needle.. You notice it at mid range.. I honestly did not notice it.. I would just keep the needle and get different mains for WOT.. There are tricks I would do. Cut the spring and drill the holes.. also, DONT run the clamp on with the stock carb.. Other wise you need to rout your vacume for the slide.. Anyways, I bought the dyno kit and really never noticed it until I got a new carb

Well, most people that ran the Dyno jets ran a 185-190 dyno jet.. That equals about a 175-180.
use this chart to help.. The main jet is realy for WOT only. I would richen up your needle on the stock needle and get a few main jets for testing. Do the spring and slide mods. Then if your not happy you can decide to get the kit. Up to you. Otherwise I would get the Dynojetkit and be done with it. I would save your money for a carb, thats where you see the performance.

I agree with MUDSTUD, except on the spring cutting and drilling. My 02 Baja already had a shorter spring than older DSs. I would just raise the needle clip 1 groove and run the stock jet or maybe a 170 IF YOU LEAVE THE LID AND SNORKEL TUBES ON.
If you take the lid off you would need to go to about a 180 mj. The spring cutting and vacuum port drilling works good without the lid.
