is it braking up (like the jetting is off) or just bogging out when you give it a little gas and won't rev?

if it's not braking up, you might not be getting oil to the motor. is the oil light on in the dash when the motor is running? There is a screen filter on the hose barb that the oil feed hose is connected to at the oil tank. if the screen filter is clogged, the oil pump will not get enough oil flow.

is this a 2000 DS650? if so you might need to bleed air out of the oil system.

NO, IT ACTS LIKE IT LOOSES COMPRESSION IT WILL REV JUST FINE UNTIL IT WARMS UP GOOD THEN IT JUST DIES. I HAVE HELD A PIECE OF PIPE UP TO THE VALVE COVER AND WHEN THIS THING HAPPENS THERE IS SOME DEFINITE COMMOTION GOING ON ON THE TOP END. I AM THINKING THAT MAYBE THE VALVES NEED ADJUSTING BUT I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THAT. THIS IS A 2001 DS 650

I think you can at least remove the valve cover and see if anything looks obviously broken or damaged, before deciding if to pay someone to work on it. remove the outer spark plug, turn motor over and watch/listen to valve train. there are pictures on the web of the DS motor with the valve cover off as well as cams out. if you take cams out, you'll need a low range torque wrench (10N-M)to put it back together. you can easily check valve clearance w/o removing cams, just need a feeler gauge set that includes 0.002", 0.003", 0.004", etc. if you see any metal blueing, there was oil starvation damage.

Just a suggestion, but after mine warms up, it won't run with the choke on. might wanna check to make sure it's not on.

yea, i thought about that choke thing and i am good there. Actually when i first noticed this i was riding an mx track and had been riding for about an hour . i got down on it and revved probably more than it had been revved all day and noticed immediately that i had power loss and that i was hearing a slight ping in the upper end of the motor.

Are you sure this is not a clutch slip issue?? When it gets warmed up...do the revs go up but the speed doesnt?
