Okay I finally raced one today. Since my DS is apart getting a big bore I only have my Raptor on hand to race it. I dragged it twice. Off the line The Raptor took it at least 150 ft. but after that, the YZF450 took the top over the Raptor. I then later rode it. It doesn't have a whole lot of torque on the bottom but it feels like it revs forever. It has a lot of top end. Similar to a RWR Stage III. It pulls and pulls and pulls. I need more seat time on it. My buddy who owns it will come to Silver Lake with me in two weeks out there if I really like it I'm game. I hate to say this.. but DS650 owners watch out for this one.

Wow impressive numbers. Keep in mind I weigh 175-180 while my buddy who was racing it is about 230. Man I can't believe that small bike can haul so much a$$. Seems like you can coax a lot of power out of it with some simple mods. Unlike a DS where you spend a lot to get a handful.

 

Umm..... You just said the total opposite of what's true.... The 450 comes tuned pretty dam good, and your not gonna get a bunch more power out of it.... the DS650 can be tuned WAY MORE from stock. The 450 already comes with a higher compression piston and your not gonna get a whole lot unless you do extensive motor work because it's already tuned from the factory.... Unlike the DS650 which you can do lots!

Well as luck would have it i have experianced the YZF motor and can tell you it's total trash and yes it's the same motor as in the 426. And rods fly out like exhaust fumes and tranny's don't even get me started if you want unrealiable speed thats what there good for.although i am waiting the arival of the honda 450 that should be good!!the yzf is a hi preformance machine that most people don't know how to deal with it will spend more time on the bench than on the hill

PS:next year it's souposed to be a true 450 and have a new 4th and 5th gears that may be worth looking in too.

 

i have a 450 with the baffle removed, air box lid off, rejetted carb and it flight *** rips. nothing in stock from will come close to it. i was able to spot piped raptors by 3-4 bikes and out run them near 7-8. it runs extremely good.

 

Are you trying to be sarcastic with me? This is my point.... My cousin has a Honda 250r with a yzf426 engine with a poweroll 440 stroker kit. All together with the dirtbike donor and motor he has about $5000 stuck into it and that's EXCLUDING the chassis and rest of the quad.... In a drag race my piped, jetted, and custom tuned(by only me) DS650 will beat him not by much may be 2 quad lengths most and sometims he will win also if I get a bad start or miss a gear or screw up.. Now I got may be $500 in pipe and power kit and I can go to the moon with mods where he is about tapped out with the $5000 he has in his.

Now if weight is your sarcasim he JUST had his scaled by a stockcar scale witch is accurate to THE EXACT POUND... He was COMPLETELY wet with gas, oil, and coolant.. His weighed in at 365pounds, witch is lighter than a new 450 anyway(WET)... My close to 500 pound DS650 still beats him though....

He is a just as good of rider as me if not better, and he also weighs a bit less than me so I hope your not being sarcastic with me but even if your not this is the point I'm trying to make. But I do understand the the yzf motor based quads are really fast.... But the potential to go faster is more limited than a DS650..

Trust me, I didn't want to believe the hype but this thing took my Raptor beat. He was racing a lot of bikes today including that Gas-Gas 300 and he told me I was the only one who made him break a sweat. It just seems like that thing has much more top end. I'm getting my DS back with a bigger bore and I got a new carb. I'm hoping I can spank him when I slap it back together. I love my DS. He keeps telling me I should sell it, but I love my machine. I'm a fan of big bore motors. I rode a few new quads today including the KXF700 (I was disappointed with the machine) and the 450F had me impressed.

 

I raced one five or six times, He beat me by a quad every time. The distance was close to three hundred feet. His quad was stock, he weighed like 175# I have a baja with graydon pipe and k&n, I weigh in at 295#.
DO you think if I go to a 14 or 15 tooth sprocket it will help launch my big ars??? oh ya we raced on wet sticky sand I was wound up on the holeshot, second gear and 7000 R.P.M
