Default can i remove my chain guide without hurting anything ?

Hi I have been having problems with my chain grinding against the chain guide. I lube my chain every ride and adjust the chain and guide often. the guide often will start to rub the chain about two hours into the ride it seems to rub off the lube also. I have heard of people removing the guides. Should I do this or is it not a good idea?

removing it and adding a chain tensioner is your best bet..

do you need to use a chain tensioner when you remove it?
