How accurate are your GPS systems??
#1
For you guys who have GPS systems how do you like them and how close are they to the actual speed of your bike when you clock them? I just got a Garmin E-Trex Legend and I dont know how accurate it is. Sometimes I think it floats due to the satellite positioning and the frequency. You guys ever have this??

I have a Garmin eTrex (it's not the Legend, it's like the 2nd from the bottom). I haven't used it on my quad (other than noting static points) but in my car it usually shows about 2 MPH under what my speedometer is showing, and I believe as a general rule most speedos show 1-2 MPH faster than you are actually going. I would consider it pretty accurate. Many people will post top speeds based on GPS. A few lucky people have speedometers while even fewer have access to radar guns.
Depending on how many sattelites and if the correction system is working, they are accurate to 14 feet. So, I guess theoretically it could be off by over 14 feet in one second, but I doubt that. It's accurate enough for bar stool racing.

I have a Garmen Etrex Vista and when I take it in the truck the speeds are very close, I'll bet the speedo in the truck is farther off then the GPS. But I have had a little issue in the woods in some places getting it lock onto the satellites

I have an older Garmin with the detachable antenna. In my truck it's very accurate, but when I mount it to the Raptor I can only get it up to 67 mph. I'm not sure if it's vibration or what, but it won't go any faster. Yes, the Raptor goes faster than 67. At slower speeds it's fine.

Huh. A friend of mine used his on his raptor when he bought it new and he could only do 65. I see those other guys hitting like 77mph on Raptor, wonder if they are full of it or what. I dont know how they get it to read that high. I took it out on my cousins Scrambler 400 today and I hit 58mph on the e-trex. It would have went maybe 59-60 if the straight was longer. Does that sound right???
